Baseball
season still alive
By
Brendan Shriane
Laird Dickie kept Blaines season alive as he
threw a two-hitter to lead Blaine to a 10 0 win over
Lakewood in a loser-out North Cascade Conference playoff
game on May 7. The real big key was Laird Dickies
pitching. Hes been struggling and he really put together
a real good game, Blaine coach Gary Clausen said.
It was important for him to pitch well for us and
he did. Bob Francis had two of Blaines 13 hits
and three runs batted in to pace the Borderites.
Blaine
will now play Granite Falls, the team it lost to at the
beginning of the tourney, on May 9 at Anderson Field. The
winner of that game gets a chance to move on to the state
tournament with a win over the West Central Districts
number 3 team at Sumner on Saturday.
Blaine
dropped the first game of the tourney 3 1 to Granite
Falls May 5 to send it to the loser-out game against Lakewood.
The Borderites were only able to muster one hit against
Lakewoods Greg Marcantonio. Dickie knocked in the
only run for Blaine.
Earlier
in the week, Blaine closed out the regular season by splitting
a doubleheader with Lynden Christian.
Craig
Anderson hit a clutch bases-loaded double with two outs
in the seven-run sixth to give the Borderites the lead in
a 13-11 win over Lynden Christian in the second game April
30. Mitchell Sherman, who went 4-for-5, singled Anderson
home for the final score to lead the Borderites in a 14-hit
attack. Grant Sanders picked up the win and Anderson got
the save..

win over Sultan in Turk territory on May 3 between a 9-0

That
lone win in three tires kept the Lady Bs in the neck-and-nape
race with Granite Falls and Meridian for the sixth and final
spot in Bi-district playoffs with the Nisqually League.
