Development Dialogue: March 21, noon, Inn at Semiahmoo. Ken Hertz, chief operating officer of Trillium Corp, will be speaking on plans for the economic development of Birch Point and the Blaine-Birch Bay area. Cost: $18 which includes tax & gratuity. Reservations are encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome. Call 332-4544 for reservations.
Donkey Basketball: March 22, 7 p.m., Ken Waters Gym. Riding rubber shoe-clad donkeys - real ones - Blaine high school teachers and students will face off on the basketball court in this fundraiser for the Future Farmers of America in Blaine. Advance discount tickets are available in the high school courtyard at lunch time or tickets will be available at the door.

Mayor Hobberlin Farewell Party: March 22, 4:30 – 6:30 p.m., Blaine Senior Center. The public is invited to thank Mayor Hobberlin and wife Nancy for their years of service to the city of Blaine.
Public Hearing to Update Blaine’s Manufactured Home Zoning Regulations: March 22, 7 p.m., Blaine city hall council chambers. For more info, call the Blaine CED department at 332-8311.
Puget Sound Blood Center Blood Drive: March 23, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. (lunch break 1:30 – 2:15). Blaine International Center, 1733 H St.
‘Help I’m Trapped In A High School’ Blaine Middle School Play: March 23 & 24, 7 p.m., Blaine Performing Arts Center.
North Sound Youth Symphony: March 24, 7 p.m., Judson Auditorium, Lynden middle school, 516 Main St., Lynden. March 25, 3 p.m., Northlake Community Church, corner of Britton and E. McLeod, Bellingham. Young musicians, ages 8 to 20, from all communities throughout Whatcom County will be performing. Admission is free, donations are welcomed. For info, call 733-6632.
Academy Awards Night at the Mt. Baker Theatre: March 25. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. With the biggest screen this side of Seattle, the theatre is able to project, via live televised feed, all the larger-than-life glamour and excitement of the Oscars. The fun part is you can come dressed any way you like. Some viewers come in their pajamas, others go for glamour, and many show up as their favorite movie character. Tickets are by suggested donation of $10 per person. Proceeds go to support the event and theatre programming. Popcorn buckets filled with movie tickets and fun prizes will be awarded to costume and ballot winners. For tickets, call 734-6080.

Blaine Land Use Committee Workshop: March 29, 5:15 – 7:30 p.m., Blaine city hall council chambers. The community is encouraged to attend this workshop regarding updates to Blaine’s manufactured home zoning regulations. For more info, call Blaine’s CED dept. at 332-8311.
Skywater April Fools Classic Golf Tournament: April 1, 2 p.m., Dakota Creek Golf. This fun-filled golf tournament is for all ages with an awards dinner following the tournament. Prizes for the best crazy dress and/or hat. Some holes will have comical tee-off situations. Cost: $50 which includes golf and dinner. To pre-register, call 332-5335.

Master Composter/Recycler Training: Wednesdays, March 21 – April 25, 7 – 9 p.m. Learn about home composting, recycling and resource conservation. To sign up, call 676-6736.
Fundraiser: Fire District #13 are collecting pledges to raise money to support leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma and Hodgkin’s disease research and patient care. To make a donation, call 371-2533
