2001:
An Odyssey in Excellence
A
Message to Graduates from Dr. Gordon Dolman,
Blaine School District Superintendent
For
the students in Blaines senior class, it was a heady
mix of awards and recognition that were dominated by arts
and academics!
Guided
by the principles of cooperation, strength in numbers and
common goals, the Leadership Class showed the way by addressing
needs of the community. This group sponsored the annual
food drive, purchased benches for the Blaine senior center
and student courtyard and worked to make The Blender teen
center a reality. Glen Hamburg organized a group that set
a new Guinness World Record for a beverage can project and
Cory Mudge headed up the Spring Fling.
Everywhere
on campus were the multi-talented quartet of Kevin Hastings
(Valedictorian), Devlin Montfort (Salutatorian), Steve Burden
(Boy of the Year) and Haily Braumberger (Girl of the Year).
Their skills ranged from academics and athletics to fine
arts and community service.
The
efforts of the class of 2001 resulted in many trophies:
the math team took first in state for the third year in
a row. The Knowledge Bowl team continued its winning ways
in state contests. The stage band was first in the highly
competitive Lionel Hampton competition. Talented musician
Jesse Schumann capped off four years of All State recognition.
On
the vocal side of the rehearsal hall, Colin Hawkins and
Angela Stavinga continued to demonstrate why they are recognized
as Most Inspirational and Outstanding.
In
Blaines initial visit to the State Technology Student
Association, our team of Ben Mallahan, Ryan Young and James
Ong returned with a set of first, second and third place
awards in various categories.
The
Class of 2001 will leave the Borderite campus with memories
of pep assemblies and homecoming activities that reflect
todays world. This group of young women and men will
step into the future with knowledge of technology that did
not exist when they began kindergarten or even high
school. Theirs is a constantly changing world and
already they have shown the skills to adapt. The Odyssey
of Excellence will continue.
