VIEWPOINT The Blaine police department and Bellingham-Whatcom Humane Society have received an increase in the number of reported attacks by vicious dogs within the City. The City contracts with the Humane Society to provide animal control and enforcement services. However, when the Humane Society is unavailable or the matter is serious, the Police Department also responds and conducts investigations. .
AROUND THE CITY The city’s community and economic development department has secured a $10,000 grant from the state Coastal Zone Management program for improvements...The city of Blaine has turned down a request by the Association of Washington Cities (AWC) to contribute to lobbying efforts against aluminum companies’ (Direct Service Industry, DSI) efforts...Blaine city council will hold a series of neighborhood meetings this summer to find out what Blaine citizens have on their minds.
ON THE WATERFRONT Things are pretty quiet for the commercial fishing fleet out of Blaine Harbor. There is an opening for crab fishing in Skagit Bay which is not scheduled yet but is supposed to happen soon, and the small draggers are fishing for sole on a day basis, bringing their catch in to Sea K Fish.
