Bays Discovery Days get underway in big way
Well, its here again. The time of year when families
dress up clams, wave at people in loud clothes with
really big red noses and race yellow rubber duckies
for prizes. Thats right, from July 20 through
July 29 Birch Bay will celebrate its annual community
festival, Discovery Days. |

to Blaines sewer overflow problems and a temporary
solution to the shortfalls of the citys old sewer
treatment plant are ready to be unveiled. |

puts two election questions to voters Blaine city
council agreed to have voters decide on funding a new
fire station and a resident-led drive to change the
citys form of government although the latter measure
failed to muster much enthusiasm.. |

delays Drivers may find they have more time to
admire the scenery along Grandview Road until mid-August,
due to traffic delays caused by construction of a sewer
line from the BP/ARCO refinery to the Birch Bay sewer
treatment plant. |

ask for assistance in theft Blaine police are asking
for the publics help finding the thief who stole
specialized fishing equipment from a local web locker. |

by us Blaine city council has approved a $14,000
contract with the consultant firm of Chandler, Brooks
and Donahoe, Inc. to provide tourism commercial recruitment
services. |

Arts: Alive and well and living in Blaine The Blaine
Open Studio held its inaugural celebration on Friday,
July 13, as an estimated 600 enthusiastic art lovers
jammed the new studio on Martin Street for an artists
reception, complete with live music. |

THE WATERFRONT The salmon fishing fleet has
gotten much smaller, due to the license buy-back which
took place during the last week of June. Licenses for
non-Treaty Indian fishers who fished for Fraser river
sockeye were bought by the state government to decrease
the number of sockeye that would be caught by U.S. fishers. |
