Exchange
students need hosts
Sophia
Costima and Yumi Nakauchi have recently returned to their
homes in Germany and Japan after spending 10 months with
Blaine host families, the Nelsons and the Hoyes while attending
Blaine high school.
Academic Year in the USA (AYUSA) is placing four students
at Blaine high school for 2001/02, two from Sweden and two
from Germany.
Three of the students have been placed with families: Malin
Astrom, from Sweden, will stay with the Hoyes. Roman Hiergeist,
from Germany will live with the Meichsners, and the Landis
family will host Andreas Frohm from Sweden.
A girl from Germany has not yet been placed in a family.
Shell arrive in Blaine on August 17. AYUSA is actively
looking for a family that would enjoy having her in their
home. She likes horseback riding, skiing, swimming
and playing the guitar and is interested in American history,
said AYUSA community representative Janice Hartwell.
Kiwanis International has selected AYUSA to facilitate their
foreign exchange program. Host homes are carefully selected
and a local community representative is available at all
times, to assist the host families. Interested families
may contact Hartwell at 360/647-1406.
