Students
take a respectable fifth place
Facing
the best brains from around the Northwest, Blaines
math team came out swinging at the Northwest Math Championship
last weekend.
The
Blaine high school team of Justin Vinall, Kyle Teutsch and
Brian Chang took fifth place in the competitive 11/12th
grade division, while Chang also tied for 10th in the individual
event.
Sponsored
by Tosco Ferndale Refinery and hosted by the Blaine school
district, the event brought together 285 10th through 12th
graders and 75 teams from 20 schools across the Northwest.
Students compete in individual tests, which are followed
by team events in geometry, algebra, trigonometry and mental
math.
Elementary
and middle school students will get their chance to grab
the glory at the Whatcom County Math Championship, March
3, and the state math championship, to be held in Blaine
on March 31.
