Ellis sentenced for arson

At a Tuesday sentencing hearing Dennis J. Ellis was sentenced to 90 days in jail for setting fire to his parent’s Adelia Street house.

Ellis will also be required to perform 280 days of community service and spend the next two years making weekly visits to a psychiatrist. In sentencing Ellis, Superior Court Judge David Nichols said Ellis and his parents, all of whom continue to maintain his innocence, were in denial.

Ellis was convicted of first degree arson in November 2000 for setting the July 1999 fire that caused substantial internal damage to his parent’s home, where he had been living. His parents were not home at the time.

Ellis was later arrested at the Anacortes airport, from where prosecutors allege he was attempting to flee. Ellis’ defense counsel have indicated they plan to appeal his conviction.
