Border
hearing set for Blaine
At
a congressional hearing Monday in Blaine ears from the nations
capital will hear local border woes and look for solutions.
Congressman Rick Larsen will join the U.S. House Subcommittee
on Criminal Justice, Drug Policy and Human Resources to
consider the status of local borders. Although Larsen is
not a member of the committee, he has worked to draw his
colleagues attention to the needs of the U.S. - Canadian
border. The 1:30 p.m. December 16 hearing at the community
center will involve community members and elected officials.
Panelists include Rear Admiral Erroll Brown, Commander,
U.S. Coast Guard; Thomas Hardy, Northwest/Great Plains director
of field operations U.S. Customs Service; Val Meredith,
Canadian Member of Parliament; Gordon Schaffer, White Rock
& South Surrey Chamber of Commerce; State Senator Georgia
Gardner; Pete Kremen, county executive; Pam Christianson,
Blaine chamber president; customs and INS union presidents
Barry Clement and Jerry Emory.
