Bay's Roy runs for county council

Roy of Birch Bay is hoping to step into Bob Imhofs
shoes on county council, but she faces some stiff competition.
Both Bob Weisen of Ferndale and Warren Hanson of Bellingham
have also filed for the position, but Roy feels she has
the skills to do a better job. I have proven leadership
skills and experience, she said. Roy said she learned
the ropes of bureaucracy and regulations working for 25
years as a school principal and special education administrator
in the Seattle area.
Since retiring and moving home to the Blaine/Birch Bay area,
Roy has worked on obtaining a coastal zone management grant
for the Birch Bay shoreline plan, and is a member of the
Birch Bay traffic safety committee and the Birch Bay chamber
of commerce. Across Drayton Harbor, she is a member of the
Blaine friends of the library and Drayton Harbor Maritime.
Recently, Roy has had a seat on the steering committee drafting
a community comprehensive plan for Birch Bay with Whatcom
County planners.
A Blaine high school graduate, Roy said she has a deep-rooted
affection for Whatcom County and a lifelong interest in
local issues. I care about Whatcom County and I will
listen to the people of Whatcom County, she said Roy
kicked off her county council campaign at a party at the
C-Shop on August 1.
