Blaine girl injured in Birch Bay hit and run

Washington State Patrol (WSP) officers are looking for information that would connect them to a driver who committed a hit-and-run on a 15-year-old Blaine girl in Birch Bay this weekend.

According to WSP, the girl was walking north with three friends along the shoulder of the 8100 block of Birch Bay Drive near Cottonwood Drive at 11:30 p.m. on June 4.

According to one of the teens, the southbound pickup truck allegedly swerved as it approached the group and struck the girl with its passenger-side mirror.

The girl suffered a broken leg and head injuries. She was taken to PeaceHealth St. Joseph medical center in Bellingham for treatment. WSP spokesman Mark Francis said the girl’s injuries were not life threatening. Her companions were unharmed.

Witnesses described the vehicle as a Ford or Dodge pick-up truck with a lift kit that raised its body. The vehicle has chrome roll bars mounted to the bed, and witnesses reported seeing a pink logo or bumper sticker attached to the rear window. Francis said the truck may have damage to its passenger side mirror and tires.

Anyone with information about the incident should contact WSP detective Craig Cardinal at 360/654-1200.
