A Blaine High School student is putting his talents to bear to raise money for a theater competition.
Nathan Smith, a senior at BHS, will be performing at the Claire Vg Thomas Theatre in Lynden on Saturday, June 4 at 7:30 p.m. Smith will perform monologues from past performances and will sing 13 songs over the course of the evening.
Smith’s goal is to raise money for a trip to the Thespian Festival, a national theater conference in Lincoln, Nebraska, later this month.
Smith is one of Blaine High School’s most acclaimed performers. In 2015, he won the Washington state male solo vocalist of the year award from the state thespian society. Most recently, Smith appeared in “Rising Ashes,” an original production about Hans Massaquoi, a mixed-race Holocaust survivor. His performance earned him a nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Lead Actor from the Seattle 5th Avenue Awards. According to BHS drama teacher Shari Akers, this is the first time a Blaine student has been nominated in that category. The winners of the 5th Avenue Awards will be announced on June 6.
