Washington State Patrol (WSP) is looking for drivers who aren’t using the left lane for its intended uses this week.
According to the law, on all roads with two or more lanes moving in the same direction, all vehicles should be driven in the righthand lane unless they’re passing another vehicle, traveling faster than the traffic flow, moving left to allow traffic to merge or preparing for a left turn.
Many drivers are unaware that camping out in the left lane can be against the law. In order to combat this problem WSP will conduct statewide emphasis patrols March 16–18 to bring increased awareness to the law. Last year WSP stopped 13,909 left lane law violators, according to a press release.
